Kris Kasanova bringing it straight from Red Hook

Kris Kasanova hails from Red Hook, and lays lyrical honey over great beats. He's got a couple songs out, and my favorite song so far is Possessed. Have a listen.

Walk Off The Earth covers Goyte

I heard this song for the first time on hypem.com while I was making something to eat, and it blew me away. I think what makes the song so good is that people can relate to the lyrics. Kimbra's voice really complements Gotye's, and they have good chemistry in the music video.

WARNING: This song is sticky.

A couple days later I saw Walk Off The Earth's cover of "Somebody That I Used to Know", and got  my mind blown again.

5 people playing ONE guitar! Of course it went viral - close to 14 million views on Youtube in 6 days!

*UPDATE: Close to 60 million views!

Enjoy!

Seth Glier rockin out at Rockwood 2

Two nights ago I attended a performance by Seth Glier at Rockwood 2. I really enjoyed the set - Seth knows how to put on a show. The set wasn't too long, and the music was just right for a Sunday night.

I had the opportunity to meet him after his set, and he's a very humble guy. He seemed as shellshocked as any 23 year old, who still lives with his parents, would be if he was nominated for a Grammy.

Seth's second album "The Next Right Thing" has been nominated for a Grammy for "Best Engineered Album, Non-Classical" category. Seth described his Grammy nomination like "running for class president against a lot of really popular kids."

Here's his single off "The Next Right Thing", "Walk Katie Home".

You can find out more about Seth: here, here and here.

Crossroads

I think I started writing on this blog sometime before I started law school. Now I'm starting my last semester and things could not be any more different.

I've found great friends, learned a lot and grew up some. Now I'm definitely at that crossroads of my life where friends are getting married, will probably start having kids (some already do), and where growing up makes sense. I'm past the age for a quarter-life crisis, and I'm not old enough to have a mid-life crisis...I'm at the point in my life where I have no choice but to grow up.

It feels good to know that I've made it this far in life, but I'm not a fool. I know there's still a lot more growing, loving, sharing, laughing and living to do.

Well, as I'm about to start my last semester of law school I'm going to let Avicii and Nicky Romero help me say something I won't be able to say once this semester is over.

Coyote Kisses, Avicii and Postal Service

Definitely struck a tone with the geek within me.

Avicii and Salem Al Fakir kill it on this track.

I don't love Birdy's cover of this Postal Service classic, but I still wanted to post it.

Happy New Year!

Velvet Peach Cafe

Dinner in Brooklyn tonight.

Went to the Velvet Peach Cafe and enjoyed several items, none of which I have photos of because it was gone too soon.

Boylan's Soda (Root beer and Ginger Ale): No HFCS, 'nuff said.

Jalapeño Sausage Chubby Biscuit: Fluffy, buttery. Ask your server to heat it up. (There were several other flavors available: Cheddar Bacon, Salami Gorgonzola and Tomato Basil Parmesan)

Jerk Chicken served over sautéed cabbage, bell peppers and wild rice: Tangy, spicy and the right amount of char. Generous portion as well.

Lamb Sliders with Ancho Aioli and Side of Blue Cheese Potato Salad: Three VERY flavorful lamb sliders. The potato salad is killer.

Caribbean Rum Bread Pudding: It's served with confectioners sugar and chocolate fudge.

It's easy to get to (take the Q toward Brooklyn to 7th Ave. and it's on the right side of the street as soon as you get off), and the atmosphere is nice. Not a first date place, but definitely a place to go with friends, to catch up and to eat good food. I thought the music was low key and not obtrusive, and the service was good without being overbearing. I didn't get a chance to check out the bathroom, but I'm sure it was better than most Starbucks' in the city.

There were also a few regulars who were lounging around drinking coffe, and reading and they all knew the staff. It made me feel like I was in a familiar place and that made the meal better. If you have a chance, I would definitely check it out.
